ANSCHE CHESED SHABBAT MORNING KIDDUSH AND SIMCHA POLICY
The currently allocated spaces for the AC congregation and affiliate minyanim are as follows: Sanctuary Minyan uses the Sanctuary for services and Hirsch Hall or Hirsch Hall Lobby for kiddush; West Side Minyan uses the 5th floor for services and kiddush; Minyan M'at uses the 6th floor for services and kiddush.
If there is a change in location of services because there is a simcha and the maintenance staff is asked to arrange the set-up and/or breakdown of religious articles and equipment (e.g. platforms, bookcases, etc.), then the simcha sponsors are charged a fee of $100. However, if the set-up and breakdown is done by volunteers, then there is no fee. If a minyan is moving for other reasons, then there is no charge.
Reservation of Hirsch Hall on Shabbat:
Members of at least one year may reserve Hirsch Hall on a first come/first served basis up to two years in advance of the event.
New members may reserve up to one year in advance.
Nonmembers may never reserve or rent space on Shabbat mornings, regardless of minyan affiliation.
If Hirsch Hall is being used for a simcha, Hirsch Hall Lobby should remain available for Sanctuary minyan kiddush.
As a general rule, we cannot accommodate private simchas during Jewish holidays or other periods of heavy building use (e.g., Hanukah Arts Festival).
Expenses for Open Kiddush in Hirsch Hall On Shabbat
A kiddush in Hirsch Hall open to everyone who attends services is a wonderful way to help celebrate your simcha, and we very much want to encourage it. Consequently, there will be no rental fee for Hirsch Hall if your shabbat or holiday reception is open. Moreover, if the open reception doesnt impose significant additional work on the maintenance staff, there is no charge for their time either. However, if the reception does create additional work for the staff, they need to be paid. To simply calculations, these principles have been incorporated into the following rules:
If the set up and breakdown of the kiddush are simple, there is no charge at all. What does "simple" mean? There are no tables for eating (and only a few for serving), no chairs, waiters, on-site paid catering or kitchen help, and the reception is over by 2:00 PM.
If the kiddush lasts past 2:00 PM $100/hour charge (because of our maintenance and security overtime costs).
If there are tables and/or chairs (we have about 200; more than that you have to rent) set up -- $180 (which is a rough estimate of the cost of set up and breakdown).
If there is on-site, paid catering/kitchen and/or waiter/waitress help $100 (because experience has shown that the shul staff spends a fair amount of time orienting, helping, and trouble shooting for the catering people).
If the reception incurs costs in multiple categories, please add the costs to arrive at the total costs charged to the kiddush sponsor. If you cannot afford these costs, please speak with the Executive Director.
It is always expected that any kiddush sponsor be responsible for restoring the kitchen to the state it was found in.
Fees for Private Party in Hirsch Hall
If you decide to have a private party (i.e. everyone at services is not invited) on Shabbat, then there is a fee for renting Hirsch Hall. It is $600 for up to 2 hours, and $1,000 for 2 - 4 hours.
Approved by AC Board on 10/30/97
