SUMMARY:Shabbat Shuva Guest Teacher: "SORRY\, SORRY\, SORRY: The Case for Good Apologies" with author Marjorie Ingall
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Shabbat Shuva\, the shabbat between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur\, Marjorie Ingall will deliver the dvar torah in the Sanctuary\, and then during Kiddush she will teach about “good apologies.” If you plan to join us for Kiddush\, please consider making a donation to the AC Kiddush Fund so we can continue to nourish our bodies and souls each Shabbat. \n\nTerrible apologies are the worst. We’ve all been on the receiving end of a few\, and we’ve all witnessed horrible\, excuse-laden public apologies go viral. Why is it so hard to say you’re sorry? And how can we all do better? Drawing on a deep well of research in psychology\, sociology\, law\, and medicine\, Marjorie Ingall and Susan McCarthy (co-creators of the popular apology watchdog site SorryWatch.com) explain why a good apology is hard to find — but why it doesn’t have to be. Alongside their six-step formula for a beautiful apology\, they delve into how to respond to a bad apology; why corporations\, celebrities\, and governments seldom apologize well; how to teach children to apologize; how gender and race affect both apologies and forgiveness; and most of all\, why good apologies are essential\, powerful\, and restorative. \n\nMarjorie Ingall is the co-author of Sorry\, Sorry\, Sorry: The Case for Good Apologies\, and the author of Mamaleh Knows Best: What Jewish Mothers Do to Raise Successful\, Creative\, Empathetic\, Independent Children. She often writes about children’s books for the New York Times Book Review and has written for many other magazines and newspapers\, including Tablet and The Forward — she was a columnist for both — as well as Town & Country\, Glamour\, Self\, Ms.\, Elle\, New York\, and Newsweek. Back in the day\, she was the senior writer and books editor at the late\, lamented Sassy Magazine.
