Assessing Israel’s Challenges in a Post-October 7 World, with Michael Koplow

Wed, November 1, 2023 at 7:30 pm

Following Hamas’ devastating October 7 attack, Israel faces an array of challenges, from destroying Hamas’ military capabilities, to deterring Hizballah from opening up a second front in the north, to preventing the West Bank from tipping over into chaos, and perhaps most of all to do so following nearly a year of unprecedented governmental and societal upheaval. What might Israel’s responses to these challenges look like, and how will its choices shape not only Gaza, but the Israeli-Palestinian arena and the wider region for years to come? And what is the role of Diaspora Jews in helping Israel to confront these challenges while managing the relationship between the two halves of the Jewish world?

Dr. Michael Koplow is chief policy officer of the Israel Policy Forum and research fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. One of the leading analysts of Israel and the Middle East, he holds a doctorate from Georgetown and advanced degrees from Harvard and NYU.
