The New Jew with Moshe Samuels and Guri Alfi

Sun, December 18, 2022 at 6:00 pm8:00 pm

Enjoy an evening of laughter and a conversation with the creators of the hit Israeli TV miniseries The New Jew, renowned comedian Guri Alfi and former BJ Shaliah Moshe Samuels.
Just like Chanukah, Jewish life in the 21st century is a great miracle, taking place in two parallel and thriving centers—פה in the land of Israel, and שם in North America. But lately we are evident of a growing gap between these two epicenters of world Jewry. The critically acclaimed and entertaining miniseries The New Jew, which aired in 2021 on the Israeli Public Television Corporation, provides a unique opportunity to observe how Israelis perceive American Jews, understand the fundamental differences between us, and explore the question: Are we still “Am Ehad,” one people?
Join the creators of The New Jew, Guri Alfi and Moshe Samuels, for a funny and insightful conversation about the making of the series, the future of the relationship between Jews in Israel and the US, and what Israelis can take and learn from the Jewish American experience. Throughout the conversation they will be screening clips from the series, and all attendees will also receive secured links to the series upon registration so they can view the series prior to the program (the series has yet to be distributed in the US).
We will light candles together as a community to celebrate the first night of Chanukah.
This event is in partnership between B’nai Jeshurun, Ansche Chesed, and the UWS Israel Emissary.
This program is co-sponsored by The Israeli Bureau for World Jewish Affairs, the Maimonides Fund and the Jim Joseph Foundation.
