The Wide Horizon of American Jewry: Chabad “Beyond Black and White”

Fri, November 8, 2019 at 6:30 pm9:30 pm

Chabad attracts friends, followers, and supporters worldwide yet is not without controversy. What attracts Jews to this spiritual/practical path? How did it become such a global brand? Rabbi Joe Kanofsky grew up in a liberal community and earned a PhD in Literature under Elie Wiesel. He also met the Lubavitcher Rebbe in 1989 as part of an undergraduate course on Hasidism, and has been engaged with this path ever since. Rabbi Kanofsky is an excellent interpreter who can help our community understand what makes this Jewish movement tick. He has rabbinic ordination from Chabad and the former Chief Rabbi of Israel and now serves Shaarei Torah, a Modern Orthodox congregation in Toronto.

<p>Join us for Kabbalat Shabbat at 5:30pm followed by a festive Shabbat dinner and a conversation with Rabbi Kanofsky beginning at 6:30pm. Ritual wine will be provided, we invite you to bring potable kosher wine.
